A week ago, we reported how if you search on Google for let it snow, the Google search results page will actually snow.
But did you know the same thing happens on YouTube?
Try searching YouTube for [let it snow] and you will be granted snow flakes.
Not only that, if you want to add snow flakes to your videos, all you need to do is click on the snow flake next to the resolution picker on the bottom right of the video player.

Heck, give it a try on my video of us testing our RB holiday gifts.

Google announced a new application, a Python script, that lets you download all your search queries available from Google Webmaster Tools.
Google is offering this for two reasons:
(1) They don't have the ability to download search query data via the Google Webmaster Tools API - yet.
(2) They removed about 10% or so of the search queries that show in your analytics when moving to SSL search and that will just get worse over time.
For more details on how this script works, see the Google Webmaster blog.
Google's John Mueller said on Google+:
If you haven't messed with Python, here's your chance to do something cool with it -- download the search queries data from your Webmaster Tools account, and automatically upload it as a Google Spreadsheet for your long-term logs.
Python isn't that complicated (if you're used to basic programming :-)), you just have to watch out for the indenting. Once you get used to it, it's really fun, powerful, & simple!

There are several complaints in the Google Places Help forums from business owners that Google Places has not shown impression data for their map listings for a month now.
The bug seems to be effecting a subset of Google Places accounts.
The first report came in about a month ago.
Vanessa from Google updated us yesterday saying it will likely not be fixed until next year. She said:
We're still having some technical trouble with this. But with the holiday, we're not going to be able to get a fix out the door until early January. Thanks for being patient and reporting more examples of this here!
Do you have this issue?

Update: The logo has now been animated and made interactive. It is simply amazing!

Google is sending mixed messages with their happy holidays logo. There are a few issues with the happy holidays logo on Google.
Here is the logo:
(1) It is 8:45am EDT and there is no special logo for the holidays on Google.com yet. At least, not for me. But it is on most the other Google properties as of the morning of December 23rd. I am thinking they have rolled it back on some properties but I am not sure.
(2) Depending on which Google property you go to, Google will give you a different message on the logo. One may say "Happy Holidays from Google!" The other will say, "Have a Merry Christmas with Google!"
Google Australia says Happy Holidays from Google!
Google Korea says "Have a Merry Christmas with Google!"
I am not sure why Google is giving mixed messages with the logo and why the logo is not yet live on Google.com but it is what it is.

This week, I discuss a possible minor update to the Google Panda algorithm. There is a new message in Google Webmaster Tools for "detected new page." Bing increased the number of site links to 8. BingBot is hiding their user agent again. SEOs are faking their Google rich snippet data. Google+ branded pages are showing in the results. Bing may have to discount the click data on popular domains to reduce bias. Google AdSense ads are showing blue arrows on iOS devices. Google has decorations up for Chanukah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. Google & YouTube have a "let it snow" easter egg. Google made a menorah out of lava lamps. Finally, the Google Happy Holidays logo is live but it presents mixed messages. Happy Holidays to all of you from the Search Engine Roundtable.
